Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is looking for a bounce back year in 2025. Posting career-lows in several categories last season, the two-time All-Star was limited to just 81 games due to injuries.
After being an All-Star in 2023 and receiving down-ballot MVP votes (16th place finish), Bichette hit just .225 last season. His 72 OPS+ was the first below average mark of his career, as the former second round pick had rated as one of the game’s best offensive shortstops since his MLB debut in 2019.
If reestablishing himself as a star-level infielder wasn’t enough motivation, Bichette is also in the final year of his contract.

While his teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has received most of the contract extension buzz, Bichette also remains without a long-term agreement. Last week, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Bichette is not expected to re-sign with Toronto this offseason.
“Word is Bo Bichette is destined for free agency, however, and likely to leave,” he wrote.
Following this news, the New York Yankees face a major decision. While the team is seemingly set at shortstop with Anthony Volpe, a March 25 prediction from The Athletic’s Jim Bowden had Bichette landing in New York as its third baseman.
“Bo Bichette signs a five-year, $147 million deal to play third base for the Yankees,” Bowden wrote as one of his 25 predictions for 2025.
While committing $147 million to Bichette would already be a big decision, doing so while slotting him at a position he has never logged a big league inning at would be a major move. In 594 career MLB games in the field, Bichette has only played shortstop.
Third base has been a revolving door for New York since Alex Rodriguez held down that position for nearly a decade. The best version of Bichette would slot in nicely to New York’s lineup, but a position change would likely be required.
