Vikings Reach Contract Extension Deal with OC Wes Phillips

With the majority of the tasks involving the team’s players officially completed for now, the Minnesota Vikings are now making moves with coaching staff members.

The team has stated that they have reached an agreement on a contract extension with offensive coordinator Wes Phillips. The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed, but Phillips is now signed with the team until the end of the 2026 season.

His initial contract was due to end following this season. Phillips joined the Vikings when the organization appointed Kevin O’Connell before the 2022 season.

He was part of O’Connell’s staff when the Rams secured the Super Bowl in 2021, acting as tight ends coach for three years. The 2025 season will mark Phillips’ fourth year as the team’s offensive coordinator, making him the first individual to serve in that role for a minimum of four straight seasons since Darrell Bevell worked in the role from 2006 to 2010 under Brad Childress.

Now that extensions for O’Connell and Phillips are finalized, the team may shift its focus to defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Flores has a deal that is due to end after this season, but might be a candidate for head coaching positions throughout the league if the Vikings’ defense maintains its strong performance.
