Arsenal finally got their man over the line last week with the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
Mikel Arteta‘s side were made to wait in the pursuit of the Italy international but Arsenal have now added a seriously exciting addition to their title challenging squad.
However, the 22-year-old has now added to what is becoming a bloated backline in north London with plenty of options available for Arteta.
The Gunners were able to boast the Premier League’s best defence last season with the fewest goals conceded of any side.
Arsenal are now going into the summer with five players who would be capable of playing at left-back next season.
However, that could soon change with a meeting planned with one of Arsenal’s defenders following their return from their US tour.
Arsenal have transfer meeting scheduled for potential sale
It has not exactly been a busy summer in north London in either player arrivals or departures.
A number of players have departed Arsenal following the end of their contracts with the club, however, there have been no actual sales.
Thankfully, Arsenal were not one of the Premier League sides who needed to balance the books last month against PSR.
But their first sale of the summer could be advanced soon with a meeting scheduled with one of their potential departing players later this week.
According to Polish outlet Meczyki, Arsenal have a meeting planned on Thursday with the representatives of Jakub Kiwior to discuss his future.
The Poland international has featured during Arsenal’s trip to the States with their final game coming tonight [Wednesday] against Liverpool.
It is claimed the Gunners have not yet made a decision on whether Kiwior is going to be allowed to leave the club.
However, he is also believed to be generating a lot of interest from across Europe with AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli all credited in the report.
Arsenal could partly fund Mikel Merino move with Jakub Kiwior sale
Having now brought Calafiori through the door, Arsenal are plotting their move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.
The midfielder is now in the final 12 months of his contract with the Spanish outfit and a move for Merino could cost Arsenal around £25m.
£20m is what Arsenal spent on Kiwior just 18 months ago and they could potentially recoup a significant amount of that this summer.
Given Merino just won the Euros in the summer with Spain, selling the ‘unbelievable‘ Kiwior and investing in Merino could prove a seriously smart piece of business by Arsenal.
