Tomlin makes decision over Steelers QB to take starting spot over Aaron Rodgers

PITTSBURGH Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is confident that Mason Rudolph can serve as the team’s QB1 – if they do not acquire Aaron Rodgers.

The team remains optimistic about obtaining the services of four-time MVP Rodgers for the 2025 season.

Former Green Bay standout Rodgers is now a free agent after departing from the New York Jets

The 41-year-old would offer a vast amount of experience to the Steelers – even if just for a season or two.

Tomlin re-signed Rudolph to the team earlier this year following one season with the Tennessee Titans.

The Steelers chose to part ways with last season’s quarterback group, letting go of both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

“We are aware of his abilities.” He is undoubtedly competent. We appreciate the unmeasurable aspects of him as an individual and as a football professional.

“I simply believe that the sense of familiarity is quite reassuring.”

Chicago Bears standout desires Aaron Rodgers’ comeback to the NFC North due to connections with the Minnesota Vikings.

In 2018, the Steelers selected Rudolph in the third round of the draft.

He dedicated six seasons to Pittsburgh, primarily in a backup role, before signing with the Titans last summer

Rudolph registered a 1-4 record as a starter in five games after replacing Will Levis in Tennessee.

He concluded the season with 1,450 passing yards, 9 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions, resulting in an overall passer rating of 80.1.

Pittsburgh stays optimistic about acquiring Rodgers, as ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reports that it’s a choice between “Steelers or retirement” for the former Super Bowl champion.

“I’ve been informed – by the Steelers – that they continue to feel optimistic,” Fowler remarked on Sunday.

“However, there has been no change since Art Rooney, the team president, spoke to the media during the owners meeting on Tuesday.”
