Arsenal made three new additions in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners completed a deadline day deal to sign Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling, who joins Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino as the new boys in North London.
Though, Arsenal did miss out on a number of their top targets and may feel a little short up front, having not signed a specialist number nine.
Here are the three best players they missed out on…
Benjamin Sesko – RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko rejected the chance to join Arsenal earlier this summer as he felt another year in Germany would be better for his development.
Sesko, who has been compared to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland per the Bundesliga website, netted in seven consecutive league games to end last season and would’ve provided Kai Havertz with stiff competition for the number nine role.
Nico Williams – Athletic Bilbao
Arsenal were tracking Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams for most of the summer transfer window after his impressive Euro 2024 campaign with winners Spain.
In fact, David Ornstein revealed that Mikel Arteta is obsessed with the idea of signing Williams, so perhaps the North Londoners will go back in for him next year.
The jet-heeled winger has been heavily linked to Barcelona, too.
Joshua Kimmich – Bayern Munich
It was reported that Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich was eager to join Arsenal this summer but for whatever reason, the deal failed to materialise.
Kimmich has been labelled ‘world class’ by Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann (Bundesliga website), so evidently, The Gunners have missed out on a top player.
With his contract in Munich due to expire in a year’s time, there could be scope to agree a pre-contract in January before signing him on a free transfer.
