It’s the story that never ends. Even though the New York Jets told quarterback Aaron Rodgers told him that they’re not interested in his services anymore, ESPN’s Adam Schefter made headlines this week when he explained that Rodgers might have a suitor in the Los Angeles Rams, depending on what happens with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
According to Schefter, Stafford’s discontent with the Rams revolves around money. Stafford is going to make less than $40 million in 2025, which is relatively low for a veteran starting quarterback in the NFL. Schefter stated that the two sides are “trying to see if they can work out a new contract.”
So what happens if Los Angeles and their quarterback can’t ink a deal? Stafford will be traded and the Rams will have a hole at the most important position in the sport. That’s where Rodgers, who is almost certainly going to be released — not traded — in a few weeks, comes into play.
“Aaron Rodgers, in my mind, would be thrilled with the idea of going to Los Angeles,” said Schefter. Rodgers, a California native, has famously owned property in Malibu, the same location where he once said he couldn’t receive cell service to answer Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst during the 2023 offseason.
So you thought the Rodgers drama was over? Well, what if joins the NFC? While the Rams aren’t on the Packers’ schedule for the 2025 regular season, they would be competing for the same playoff spots and in the same NFC title race. Last year, both the Packers and Rams punched in a playoff ticket, so it’s not out of the question that the first Rodgers vs. Green Bay game could come in the next postseason.
