Richard Keys was surprised Arsenal didn’t receive a penalty in their game against Liverpool after West Ham were awarded one against Manchester United.
The Irons welcomed the Red Devils to East London on 27 October in the Premier League, winning 2-1 and scoring a stoppage-time penalty after Matthijs de Ligt was deemed to have fouled Danny Ings.
At the Emirates later on the same day, Ibrahima Konate’s challenge on Gabriel Martinelli raised a few eyebrows, but eventually, nothing was given, and Keys compared the two incidents on X [27 October].
“Wow,” he wrote.
“I’ve just seen a pen given at West Ham for sneezing compared to that one.
The Hammers had gotten off to a poor start this season and had only won two games in the Premier League before the victory over the Red Devils.
Erik ten Hag’s team didn’t come into the game in the best of form, but considering how bad the Irons have been recently, the London Stadium faithful can be excused for not having much faith before kickoff.
It was a shocking start from the home side and Manchester United could’ve been out of sight within minutes, but thankfully, the Irons stuck in there and got the three points.
With Mohammed Kudus out after picking up a red card against Tottenham, Crysencio Summerville chose the right time to step up and score his first goal for the club off the bench.
Changes will be expected again ahead of another tough trip to Nottingham Forest on 2 November, with consistency needed to kick on – hopefully, without too much controversy this time.
