REPORT: ARSENAL REJECT AJAX APPROACH FOR RAMSDALE

According to The Athletic, Ajax are ‘optimistic’ about signing Aaron Ramsdale despite a first attempt to loan the player being rejected by Arsenal.

Ramsdale hasn’t spoken about his future but it’s widely assumed he’ll leave the club in some capacity before the transfer window closes.

For the moment, Arsenal are prioritising a permanent exit for the England international but they may back down from that stance given the clock is ticking and nobody seems willing to pay their asking price.

Ramsdale signed a new contract at the Emirates last year but was relegated to the bench when loan signing David Raya arrived not long after. Given the deal for the Spaniard included an obligation to buy him for £27 million, the writing has been on the wall for Ramsdale for quite some time.

If Arsenal do signal a willingness to let Ramsdale leave on loan, Ajax, with whom we’ve already done business for Tommy Setford, could face competition from a host of Premier League clubs. Southampton and Nottingham Forest are said to be waiting in the wings.

The Athletic claims Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is a possible replacement. That said, if Arsenal are looking for a familiar face, Wojciech Szczesny is on the verge of terminating his contract with Juventus. He’s pondering retirement at the age of 34 after a move to Saudi club Al Nassr collapsed.

Whether Wojciech would adhere to all the non-negotiables is up for debate.
