As much comes owing to his latest activity on social media platform ‘X’.
Sociedad star Mikel Merino has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the headlines across all of Europe of late.
This comes with the 28-year-old, fresh off playing his part in Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024, having been targeted by a number of clubs across La Liga and the continent alike.
Ahead of the expiration of his contract at Anoeta in 12 months’ time, all of Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Arsenal have been credited with a strong interest in Merino.
Recent days, however, have seen claims mount that it is Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal who are closest to actually making the former Newcastle United man’s signing a reality.
And, as alluded to above, on Thursday, Merino himself dropped what has since been widely labelled as a hint, that he could well be Emirates-bound.
As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, after stumbling across a post on ‘X’, confirming that Bologna standout Riccardo Calafiori is on the verge of a move to Arsenal, the Spaniard responded with a retweet.
This marked the very first activity on Merino’s account since early-2023.
Not only that, but, having evidently been made aware that his X activity had been picked up on across the continent, the Real Sociedad man responded by deleting his post.
