Real Madrid find relief with September break not bringing the same problems as before

Posted on September 2, 2025 by sportsmars60@gmail.com

For years, Real Madrid have often been the side most affected by the so-called ‘FIFA Virus’ – the risk of injuries and fatigue during international breaks.

This September, however, Los Blancos can breathe a little easier, as despite having 13 players called up for duty with their national teams, the squad will not suffer as heavily as in previous years.

A number of important players will actually remain in Madrid, either due to injuries or by decision of their respective coaches.

This means fewer risks for Xabi Alonso’s squad, which already had to deal with a packed calendar following a short two-week pre-season.

Injuries, rested stars, and technical decisions

Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga would normally be central figures for England and France, but injuries mean they will stay back in Madrid to continue recovery.

The same applies to Ferland Mendy and young talent Endrick, who are sidelined and unavailable for their countries.

Brazil, meanwhile, has also handed Madrid a huge boost, as Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, and Eder Militao will not join the Selecão squad this time.

The new coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has chosen to rest them, a decision that certainly works in Real Madrid’s favour.

There are also several players who were not included in their respective squads for technical reasons.

Dani Ceballos, Alvaro Carreras, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raul Asensio, and Fran Garcia will all remain in Madrid, giving Ancelotti more bodies to work with during the break.

Managing the return will be key

Even with this partial relief, challenges remain. Some players, including Federico Valverde and Franco Mastantuono, will return from international duty less than 72 hours before the crucial La Liga clash against Real Sociedad.

Their late arrivals will test Alonso’s rotation plans as he balances fitness with the need for results.

For once, Real Madrid are not one of the clubs hardest hit by the international calendar.

The lighter impact of this break offers the team a rare chance to recharge and regroup ahead of an intense run of fixtures in both La Liga and the Champions League.
