Raya named September’s men’s Player of the Month

David Raya’s superb start to the season has continued after our supporters selected him as our men’s Player of the Month for September.

Last year’s Premier League Golden Glove winner scooped the division’s Save of the Month accolade in August, and now he has come out on top of our monthly poll to win the prize for the first time as a Gunner.

David beat off competition from Gabriel, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba by gathering 44% of the votes, following another brilliant month for our number one between the posts.

After keeping a clean sheet in the north London success against Tottenham Hotspur, Raya’s highlight came when he made an incredible double save to keep out Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui’s penalty and the follow-up to secure us a valuable point in Italy.

That took his number of shutouts to four, while he made a string of good stops at the Etihad Stadium during a second-half barrage to ensure we left with a share of the spoils against Manchester City, before helping us clinch a 4-2 victory at home to Leicester City.

David is the first goalkeeper to win our Player of the Month award since Aaron Ramsdale did so back in November 2021.
