NEWCASTLE REGISTER INTEREST IN UNSETTLED ARSENAL ACE AARON RAMSDALE

The 25-year-old was crucial to Arsenal’s title challenge last season but has lost his place to David Raya, who has gained the trust of manager Mikel Arteta

Raya has established himself as Arteta’s first choice between the sticks, reducing Ramsdale to the odd Cup appearance, which has frustrated the England international.

Ramsdale has made just six appearances in the Premier League this season and 11 across all competitions, managing three clean sheets.

Having spent the bulk of the 2023/24 campaign warming the bench, the Englishman has struggled to make a convincing claim for a starting berth when handed the chance.

His shaky performances between the sticks have only solidified Raya’s position as Arsenal’s designated shot-stopper, and a summer departure appears to be the most likely option for Ramsdale.

Newcastle have now emerged as a possible destination for the former Bournemouth and Sheffield United keeper, with the Magpies looking to provide competition for Nick Pope.

Eddie Howe wants to help Ramsdale end his misery at the Emirates Stadium. The Magpies boss remains a big admirer of the keeper after signing him at Bournemouth from Sheffield.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal in a £30 million move, but the Gunners are yet to name their price for the unsettled keeper, although he is valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt.

Ramsdale is keen to play regular Premier League football again and is seriously considering his options ahead of a crucial summer transfer window.

Newcastle are among those interested as they look to bolster their squad.

The Magpies have been forced to rely on 35-year-old Martin Dubravka with first choice Nick Pope sidelined with a dislocated shoulder, although the Englishman is expected to return at the end of April.

Newcastle are now eyeing a move for Ramsdale as they plan the next phase of their recruitment, and Arsenal are already exploring potential replacements for the English stopper.

They have their sights on Columbus Crew keeper Patrick Schulte but could face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United, who are also interested.
