New Orleans Saints reportedly finalizing deal with Doug Nussmeier to become new offensive coordinator

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Doug Nussmeier was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL Draft.

His son, Garrett, is the starting quarterback for the LSU Tigers.

Doug Nussmeier worked with Kellen Moore in Dallas as the tight ends coach while Moore was the Cowboys’ quarterbacks coach in 2018.

He was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2020 while Kellen Moore was the offensive coordinator in Dallas from 2019 to 2022.

Nussmeier would follow Moore to Los Angeles and serve as the Chargers quarterbacks coach in 2023 before taking on the same role under Moore in Philadelphia for the Eagles’ championship run.

NFL insiders report that Nussmeier is finalizing a deal to become Kellen Moore’s offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints.

The move would make Nussmeier the latest addition to the Saints’ new staff.

Joe Thomas is reportedly returning to New Orleans to be the new running backs coach while Scott Tolzien will serve as the Saints’ quarterbacks coach.

Tolzien was an assistant in Dallas under Kellen Moore.

TJ Paganetti is also joining the staff after serving as the Eagles’ run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach last year.
