This time, Aaron Judge and Babe Ruth aren’t the only two guys on the historic list.
New York Yankees history now has three players, including Judge on Friday night, who have homered when trailing 1-0 to the rival Boston Red Sox in the ninth inning or later, according to Underdog Sports.
Before Judge, Ruth had done it on May 2, 1921, and Matt Holliday had done it on July 15, 2017.
Judge’s blast had to come in the most remarkable circumstances.
He had faced Boston ace Garrett Crochet six times already this season and struck out in all six matchups.
Then in the ninth, down 1-0, he got a 99.6 mile per hour fastball on the inside corner.
Somehow, Judge whipped his hands inside the baseball to yank a moonshot over the Green Monster to tie the game that the Yankees would go on to lose in the 10th inning.
The ball left the bat at 115.5 miles per hour.
It was Judge’s 26th homer of the season.
And in a rivalry like this, there have been few to match it.
