Chelsea have spent a Premier League record £75million on agents’ fees alone across the last two transfer windows.
Since Todd Boehly bought the club in 2022, the Blues have broken numerous domestic transfer records. While Chelsea have made more money through player sales than any other team over the last ten years, they have also broken the Premier League transfer record for a single player on two occasions and shattered spending records in three consecutive transfer windows.
One of the major by-products of such lavish spending has been the fees they have had to shell out for those brokering the deals. The west Londoners allowed the bills to stack up to such an extent, their total agents’ fees this season have been more than most team’s transfer budgets.
The FA released figures detailing each Premier League club’s registered intermediary fees and transactions for the 2023-24 season. By just over £14m, Chelsea have spent the most.
They have forked out £75,140,524 on agents’ fees – more than the transfer fees of Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku and many more. Their figure is more than three-times what Arsenal has spent this season, despite the the Gunners signing the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
Mikel Arteta’s side have spent £24,760,875 on agents’ fees, equivalent to just under 10% of their total transfer spend. Meanwhile, the Gunners title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool have spent more on agents’ fees than Arteta’s money men.
The Merseysiders have spent £31,500,211 to agents while City splashed out an astronomical £60,626,025. The side with the lowest amount paid to agents was Luton Town, who have only paid £2,020,146 – meaning Chelsea’s agents’ fees is more than 34-times what the Hatters have paid.
It’s another example of the humongous gulf between teams at the top and the bottom of the division. While Chelsea’s top the agents’ fees table, they are only just in the top ten of the division.
The Blues face Everton at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League match, before a potentially season defining FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City.
