Alexis Sanchez is one of the most controversial figures in Arsenal’s recent history.
The Chilean was undoubtedly Arsenal’s best player or quite some time, but a move to Manchester United in 2018 certainly tainted his legacy at the Emirates, while his lack of form after his move to Old Trafford completely changed how he was viewed within the footballing world.
Sanchez has faded from the spotlight in recent years, but speaking to Goal, Mikel Arteta has spoken, ever so briefly, about the winger.
Mikel Arteta may never have managed Sanchez, but he was his teammate at Arsenal once upon a time.
Speaking to Goal, the Arsenal manager played a game of word association, and when he was asked to describe Sanchez, he used just one word to describe the attacker.
Chaos is an apt word to describe Sanchez at Arsenal, but perhaps Sanchez deserves a more positive description.
The attacker was absolutely amazing at Arsenal at one point. He was the Gunners’ talisman during the latter Arsene Wenger era, and he single-handedly dragged Arsenal to silverware and Champions League qualification in certain seasons.
It’s a massive shame that Sanchez’s Arsenal career ended under such a dark cloud. The South American was well on his way to becoming a legend in north London before leaving for Manchester United, and we can only imagine that’s a move he massively regretted.
Enough time has probably passed for Sanchez to be forgiven for leaving Arsenal in this way, and now that the dust has settled a bit, we can look back on just how fantastic a player Sanchez was during his time at the Emirates.
