Mikel Arteta says Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus can do something now that he hasn’t done in seven years

The Gunners have been working hard to prepare for the clash against Aston Villa this weekend. Unai Emery returns to the Emirates in what is a big game for both sides.

Arsenal have the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich coming up next week. Arteta will have one eye on that game, so we could see a few changes against Villa tomorrow.

One player who could start is Jesus, and Arteta has now given a very positive update regarding the Brazil international.

Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in 2022.

The Brazilian became an instant hit at the Emirates. He started his life at Arsenal in magnificent fashion and helped them become title contenders.

This season, Jesus has had a lot of injury issues. He has had to spend three separate spells on the sidelines and suggested recently that he’s still playing inpain.

That has raised concerns over his availability in the final few games of the season in both, the Premier League and the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta was asked whether Jesus is physically capable of starting every single game from now until the end of this season.

The Arsenal boss claimed that the former Manchester City man has never done it over the last seven years, but he is ready now. That is a huge boost for the league leaders.

Arteta said, as relayed on HaytersTV: “It’s possible, yes. He hasn’t done it, not now, he hasn’t done it in seven years. When you look at the history, in seven years, he hasn’t done it.

“But can he do it? Yes!

“He is prepared, he’s physically well now and, as well, it will be determined by how much he gets kicked, the kind of fatigue element that builds into the game in relation to the score line… a lot of factors.

“But, he is ready. He looks really good now.”
