Mikel Arteta eyes Aaron Ramsdale replacement amid Newcastle ‘offer’ as Arsenal transfer nears

Arsenal have begun searching for an Aaron Ramsdale replacement with it fully expected the goalkeeper departs this summer. Last October, Ramsdale lost his spot in the starting XI to summer signing David Raya with the 26-year-old making just three appearances in the last seven months as a result.

Public comments on Ramsdale’s future have been made by both the man himself and Arteta in recent months. Asked back in April if there was a suggestion he would remain at Arsenal this summer, Arteta said: “A suggestion? There is a big reality that Aaron will be here because he is our player and has a contract.”

Following on from his admission, talk of a move already being agreed between Arsenal and Newcastle emerged. However, Ramsdale was quick to shut down any premature reports regarding his future with a clear social media message.

Posting to X (formerly Twitter) earlier this month, he wrote: “News to me [laughing face emoji].” While that certainly slowed down any suggestions he would be departing Emirates Stadium this early into the summer, interest from the Magpies is certainly present.

The Telegraph have claimed it is thought Newcastle are willing to pay around £15 million for Ramsdale, with the offer of a five-year contract on the table. With it looking very likely Ramsdale leaves, Arteta and Edu are looking at replacements with one name on their shortlist emerging.

Another report from the Telegraph has revealed that Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow is being looked at as a potential successor to Ramsdale. The 26-year-old starred in the Netherlands last season under Arne Slot and as such Liverpool are also said to be interested in a transfer for Bijlow.
