Martin Odegaard believes that the ‘sky is the limit’ for Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal star shone once again and fired the Gunners to an opening-weekend victory over Wolves.
Saka, 22, assisted Kai Havertz for Arsenal’s opening goal before sealing their 2-0 win with a thunderous strike of his own in the second half. The England international picked up where he left off last season – when he finished as Arsenal’s top goalscorer – and he looks set for another stellar campaign as the Gunners go hunting to finally become Premier League champions for the first time since 2004.
Manager Mikel Arteta even compared the in-form winger to Lionel Messi post-match and in another dolloping of high praise, team-mate Odegaard has explained just how much he rates Saka.
“There is no roof for this guy,” the Gunners captain hailed. “It is unbelievable the quality that he has, and how professional he is, how much he loves the game and how much he puts into it every day.
“The sky is the limit for Bukayo. I am just happy to have him on my team, and we have got to help him to improve all the time, and push him. I am really happy for him.
“I think Bukayo will just get better and better. You see him every day in training, he is working so hard on all the small details to get better. I am sure he is just going to improve and improve. I can’t wait to see where he takes it.”
What made Saka’s contribution against Wolves even more impressive was that just 34 days prior to the game, the 22-year-old had started for England in the final of Euro 2024. Arsenal team-mate Declan Rice did the same while Gunners goalkeeper David Raya was on the bench for winners Spain.
The trio was all standout performers in their hard-fought victory at the Emirates on Saturday, after which Arteta remarked: “I’m not surprised (at their performances). That was their mentality straight away after the last game, they said I’m going to be ready for the first game.
“They wanted to come and be here early. If players are doing that, the compromise, it will grow around the team, and it will step up the level.”
Arsenal will be hoping to make it two wins from two when they travel to face Aston Villa next Saturday.
