Manchester United will begin a new chapter under Ruben Amorim following the international break.
Amorim prefers to play with a three-man defence at the back, a tactical setup United have rarely deployed in recent seasons.
There could be personnel changes and the Portuguese may consider bringing in a few players from Sporting CP.
Manchester Evening News report that the Red Devils are ‘tracking’ Sporting winger Geovany Quenda.
The 17-year-old is already drawing comparisons to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka due to his talent and work ethic.
Geovany Quenda has a mammoth £84m release clause
Quenda recently signed a new contract with Sporting that runs until 2027.
Sporting recognise the teenager’s immense potential and know that top clubs will watch his development closely. As a result, they increased his release clause to a hefty £84 million.
Quenda shined in his side’s 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
He started in the right-wing back spot and played a crucial role to earn a stunning result.
He won five out of his seven duels, made two tackles also created a big chance.
The starlet also earned an assist for Sporting’s equaliser.
He played a perfectly weighted through pass between two Man City defenders to allow Viktor Gyokeres to make a darting run at Ederson.
Quenda has made 17 appearances this season since making his debut in August.
Even though he prefers to attack, the youngster has shown tremendous commitment to track back and support his defence.
United have struggled at the right wing despite investing heavily in Antony and Amad Diallo.
Signing Antony looks like a big mistake by the club whereas Diallo has yet to prove his mettle.
Amorim may ask the United hierarchy to sign Quenda from Sporting next summer.
Given his age, it would be a massive bet for United to meet his staggering release clause.
The Portuguese winger is still raw and the Red Devils may not be willing to trigger £84m release clause.
However, they could be open to a deal if Sporting decrease their asking price.
