Manchester City are very familiar when it comes to battling for the Premier League title.
The past two seasons have seen City compete with Arsenal to be crowned champions, with Pep Guardiola’s side coming out as victors in both campaigns.
Prior to that, the Blues had numerous seasons where they had Liverpool as their main title rivals.
In this current season, all three sides look to be in the fight to secure the trophy, which City have lifted six times over the past seven years.
This weekend sees Mikel Arteta’s side take on Liverpool for another key match in this latest title race.
However, the Gunners are facing somewhat of an injury and suspension crisis ahead of this game, which City will undoubtedly have their eyes on.
Arsenal facing squad crisis ahead of Liverpool match
Starting off with injuries, Arsenal could be without defensive duo Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori for their clash against Liverpool at the Emirates on Sunday (via Evening Standard).
With Timber picking up an injury in the Gunners’ Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, Calafiori did the same in Tuesday’s win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
In addition to this, the North London side will be without William Saliba through suspension after he was sent off in last weekend’s Premier League defeat against Bournemouth.
Also not expected to face Liverpool are Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, who have both picked up injuries while on international duty.
So with Arteta’s side potentially having five key players unavailable to take on Liverpool, this could have a big impact on where the points end up going on Sunday.
Either way, this will definitely be an interesting match from City’s point of view.
City have their own injury problems
Arsenal aren’t the only side dealing with injury issues this season, as City have dealt with their own ones.
In fact, their biggest blow came during their 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium where Rodri was forced off the pitch in the first half with a knee issue.
It was then revealed by Guardiola that Rodri had damaged his ACL and will be out injured for the rest of the season.
Moving forward, given Arsenal’s current fitness and suspension issues, this will only make their clash with Arne Slot’s side this weekend more interesting for City to keep an eye on.
