In light of Andriy Lunin’s delicate situation at Real Madrid, there has been no shortage of suitors for the Ukrainian goalkeeper this summer.
Coming on the back of a brilliant 2023/24 campaign, Lunin’s prospects at Real Madrid has been marred by Thibaut Courtois’ return to fitness.
Real Madrid have made it very clear that Lunin will return to becoming Courtois’ understudy in the new season. This has led to uncertainty over the goalkeeper’s future, with many expecting him to leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
To that end, a host of European clubs have already sounded out the possibility of signing Lunin, including Premier League giants Arsenal.
Liverpool also interested in Lunin
Now, according to reports in England, as relayed by SPORT, Arsenal could face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Andriy Lunin this summer.
As per the report, it appears Liverpool have identified Lunin as a potential replacement for Alisson, who may leave Anfield this summer.
The Brazilian international has received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia this summer and could follow in the footsteps of his former teammates Sadio Mane and Fabinho by moving to the Middle East.
More than an Alisson replacement
Alisson’s uncertain future is not the only reason driving Liverpool’s interest in Andriy Lunin. In fact, the Reds are likely to go after the Ukrainian even if Alisson stays at Anfield this summer.
It seems Liverpool have identified Lunin as someone who can not only capture the goalkeeping position in the years to come but can also replace Caoimhin Kelleher, another goalkeeper facing an uncertain future in Merseyside.
Liverpool do harbour an excellent relationship with Alisson’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who is actively trying to lure the best clubs in Europe to sign Andriy Lunin this summer.
Therefore, it won’t be surprising to see clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Manchester United indulge in a bidding war in the race to sign the Ukrainian this summer.
