Key Arsenal star set for new contract following Mikel Arteta decision

Mikel Arteta’s latest move signals big faith from the Spaniard in the Arsenal star.

Arsenal are set to reward Leandro Trossard with a new contract following his impressive performances this season, LondonWorld understands.

The Belgian international has become an important asset for the Gunners since joining from Brighton in January 2023.

He scored 12 goals in 34 league games last season and although he hasn’t quite matched his form of last season in the current campaign, manager Mikel Arteta remains a huge fan of the 29-year-old.

Trossard’s agent Jos Comhair has already begun discussions with Arsenal officials over extending the deal, as clubs in Europe and further afar monitor his contract situation.

“He is a little magician. He is a big threat. So composed, so cool,” said Arteta after the Gunners’ win against Wolves last season.

“Huge [impact] and not only when he starts from the bench, when he has started games, big games,” said the Spaniard last month.

“Last season you look especially at the last quarter of the season, the amount of runs of games he had was huge, and he has been really consistent with his threat on goal, with his capacity to create situations and especially big chances.

“And then without the ball what he’s doing is great, I’m really pleased with it.”

Meanwhile, it’s understood Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro is now out of the running for the Arsenal sporting director role.

The Brazilian director was previously shortlisted for the job to replace Edu Gaspar, but he is now set to stay at the Ligue 1 side.
