The Philadelphia Phillies may be testing fans’ patience with a shaky start to the 2025 season, but the Minor Leagues are offering plenty of reasons for optimism. Andrew Painter is edging closer to his MLB debut, Mick Abel seems to have turned a corner, and outfielder Justin Crawford is thriving at Triple-A. However, the standout so far has been making such a strong case that he could be called up to the Phillies by June 1.

He might not be the name most fans are eagerly awaiting—he ranks just 24th on MLB Pipeline’s list of Phillies prospects and is already 25 years old. Still, his impressive performance may give the team no choice but to promote him.

Kemp is tearing it up for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, hitting .344 with a .433 on-base percentage and a .703 slugging percentage. He’s launched 10 home runs, driven in 35 runs, added 14 doubles, and stolen five bases without being caught—all in just 28 games. He’s also demonstrated versatility by playing four different positions and was named the International League’s Player of the Month for April.

Despite not being a top-tier prospect, Kemp has been one of the Minor Leagues’ most productive players in 2025. The Phillies may find it difficult to overlook his performance for much longer.

His role at the big-league level is unclear. While he primarily plays third base—currently occupied by Alec Bohm, who’s had a rocky start—it’s uncertain whether the team would bench Bohm. Kemp has also seen a bit of action in left field, but only has two starts there, which may not be enough to earn him that spot in the majors.

Still, what’s clear is that Kemp has earned a chance. If his hot streak continues, the Phillies will likely find a way to get him on the field.
