After falling to the fifth round of last month’s NFL Draft, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders signed a four-year rookie contract worth $4.6 million on Monday.
The former Colorado star’s contract includes a $446,553 signing bonus, according to Sportrac.
Sanders, the draft’s most talked-about prospect, was selected 144th overall by Cleveland. The Cleveland Browns traded the 166th and 192nd overall picks to the Seattle Seahawks for the 144th pick.
Sanders, 23, was the sixth quarterback chosen in the draft, and the Browns’ second after securing Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel late in the third round.
The Browns also have three veteran quarterbacks on their roster: DeShaun Watson (who is injured and will not play in 2025), newly acquired Kenny Pickett, and 40-year-old Super Bowl winner Joe Flacco.
Sanders, who was named the Associated Press’s second-team All-American quarterback last season, had his number retired the weekend before the draft at Colorado, and he expects to learn about his new team in the first round. Instead, he enters rookie camp far down the pecking order and without his NFL Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, as his coach for the first time in nearly a decade.
During his four-year college career, which included 50 games, Shedeur Sanders completed 70.1 percent of his passes for 14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and only 27 interceptions.
