The New York Jets announced this week that the team will be parting ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the 2025 offseason. … and they did it with a combination of politeness and firmness.
The four-time NFL MVP quarterback who brought such heightened expectations to The Big Apple just lasted two seasons (one with him on the field) and just 12 combined victories – nowhere near enough.
But as head coach Aaron Glenn begins the process of finding his new signal-caller, new information has been unearthed that shows what recent conversations have been like for the organization and their soon-to-be former quarterback.
As first reported by the New York Post, Rodgers “pleaded” with the Jets “aggressively” to try and get another shot to work things out with the team.
He later accepted the decision, per the report, “like a man going to the gallows.”
Rodgers “plea” is significant. It shows that not only was he focused on returning for another football season, but he was ready to buy-in to whatever the organization was going to have for him – in theory, anyway.
Instead, the Jets opted to eliminate the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback from the equation entirely.
In the end, the Post’s report regarding Rodgers’ thoughts in his final days as a Jet works as an interesting curiosity … especially as it shows a vision being embraced by the new regime. And it was at new coach Aaron Glenn’s introductory press conference that showed exactly why.
“This thing is not about Aaron Rodgers,” Glenn said. “This is about the roster.”
In a way, Glenn tipped his hand then and there. New York wants a quarterback that will be part of a collective organization – not one that is above others. …
And not one who gets to “talk his way” back into the team’s good graces.
