The New York Jets have moved on Aaron Rodgers, and now the franchise must find his successor, and that isn’t an easy task.
With free agency beginning in the next couple of weeks, and the NFL Draft after, the Jets have ample avenues to exploit as they look to get the right player.
With the scouting combine beginning in Indianapolis, the Jets will have a keen eye on all quarterback prospects and, holding the No. 7 pick, could be in play to snag one.
Tyrod Taylor and Jordan Travis are the quarterbacks on the roster for 2025, but for general manager Darren Mougey, the franchise will look under every rock as it searches for its next quarterback.
“We’ll explore all those options,” Mougey said. “There’s a lot of intriguing players in this draft, some good, talented players in the draft, at quarterback as well. Then in free agency, we’ll exhaust all those options but really excited of who we have in the building right now. Starting with Tyrod, a guy that’s been around the league, been in the league for a long time and has a great reputation. I’ve got the opportunity to talk to him a few times and it’s been great. So I’m glad we have Tyrod in the building, but we’ll exhaust all options.”
For most, free agency looms as one avenue New York could take, with Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, and Sam Darnold all linked to Gang Green.
But none would be more than a placeholder for the 2025 season, as the Jets would likely go into the offseason knowing exactly what they want.
Taylor looms as an inside chance at the starting role, having been with the franchise last season, but it is clear the Jets want to turn over a new leaf.
And to do that, they’ll turn over every stone in their search.
