The New Orleans Saints have officially announced the signing of a new quarterback—23-year-old sensation Jalen Rhodes. The highly touted young star, known for his powerful arm, incredible field vision, and dynamic athleticism, is set to replace veteran Derek Carr as the team’s starting quarterback heading into the 2025 NFL season.
The Saints front office confirmed the signing during a press conference at the team’s headquarters on Monday morning. General Manager Mickey Loomis expressed unshakable confidence in Rhodes’ abilities, calling the young quarterback “the future of Saints football.”
“We’re thrilled to bring Jalen into the fold,” Loomis said. “He’s not only one of the most gifted young quarterbacks we’ve seen in years, but he also has the leadership qualities and work ethic that align with the culture we’ve built here in New Orleans. He’s ready to take that next step, and we believe he can lead this team to great success.”
Rhodes, a standout at the University of Georgia and a finalist for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, dazzled scouts with his elite playmaking ability and poise under pressure. His dual-threat capabilities make him a nightmare for opposing defenses, and he has drawn comparisons to some of the league’s top quarterbacks, including Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts.
Speaking at his introductory press conference, Rhodes was all smiles and gratitude.
“It’s a blessing beyond words to wear the black and gold,” he said. “I grew up watching this franchise and dreaming of moments like this. I have nothing but respect for Derek Carr, and I hope to build on what he’s done here. My goal is simple: win games, bring energy to the Dome, and help bring another championship to this city.”
Head Coach Dennis Allen echoed the enthusiasm, saying that Rhodes had already made a strong impression during private workouts and early training camp drills.
“Jalen brings a spark,” Allen said. “He’s got that ‘it’ factor. The guys in the locker room are rallying behind him already, and that’s exactly what you want to see in a young quarterback stepping into a big role.”
While the decision to move on from Derek Carr—who threw for 3,878 yards and 23 touchdowns last season—may come as a surprise to some, team insiders say the move was strategic and future-focused. Carr is expected to either explore a trade or take on a mentorship role elsewhere.
For Saints fans, the arrival of Jalen Rhodes represents a fresh chapter filled with potential. Season ticket inquiries have surged in the hours since the announcement, and social media is already buzzing with excitement, hashtags like #RhodesToVictory and #SaintsNewEra trending nationally.
With training camp just weeks away, all eyes will be on Rhodes as he begins what many hope will be a legendary career in New Orleans.
