Giants Trade Bid for Matthew Stafford Details Revealed

According to NFL insider Peter Schrager from NFL Network and Fox Sports, the New York Giants made a very fair and competitive offer to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

“I know it from all angles, not just from of my relationship with [Rams coach Sean] McVay, but also my relationship with Stafford,” Schrager said on the “Bill Simmons Podcast” that went live on Tuesday. “What I think the trade compensation would have been, Giants give up their second round pick which is the 34th pick, and the Rams give back up a third round and Stafford.

“But then Stafford would then need to tear up the contract and have a massive contract which would have been paying him close to $15 million more per year than what essentially he is going to play for with the Rams.”

According to the New York Post and the NFL Network’s Rich Eisen, the Giants also agreed to meet Stafford’s contractual demands in the neighborhood of $90 million to $100 million in total for two seasons.

However, Stafford put the kabash on the deal as he did not want to uproot his family again. He moved them once when he was traded from Detroit.

Accordingly, he agreed to a restructured deal with the Rams as he chose comfort over security.

The Giants have to go back to the drawing board and wait for free agency to start on March 10 to sign a veteran signal-caller unless they want to bring Aaron Rodgers over from the other locker room at MetLife Stadium.

Rodgers lives in New Jersey and is used to dealing with the local media who can be rather harsh at times.
