Gabriel Jesus saw the funny side of Arsenal team-mate Ben White’s clash with Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto in the first game of their USA pre-season tour.

White, 26, is regarded as one of Arsenal’s most competitive players and the defender is always happy to get his hands dirty for the sake of the team. His aggressive and somewhat controversial approach at corner kicks often leave opposition goalkeepers fuming and despite it being a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, White employed his usual tactics.

As seen in the Premier League last season, the former Brighton and Leeds man was attempting to obstruct Bournemouth shot-stopper Neto by giving him a few nudges. Cherries left-back Milos Kerkez did his best to get in White’s way but as the ball was swung in, the Arsenal defender made contact with Neto.

Fortunately for Bournemouth, the Brazilian was able to punch the ball away and was awarded a foul. The game ended 1-1 in Los Angeles after Antoine Semenyo had cancelled out Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira’s opener, but as it was a pre-season friendly a penalty shootout took place.

While both teams were waiting, Neto’s compatriot, Jesus, was seen joking about the incident with White alongside them. All three players laughed and the tension was eased.

It was White and Jesus who got the last laugh, though, as Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein saved two penalty kicks before Jakub Kiwior slotted home the winner. Boss Mikel Arteta was happy with how the Gunners began their pre-season tour and was particularly pleased the performances of Arsenal’s youngsters.

“I’m really pleased because we had really special circumstances today,” Arteta told club media post-match. “We arrived two days ago, we had so many young kids playing with us that had never played before and I think we had a really strong performance against a side that is a bit ahead of us in their schedule.
