Arsenal’s Frida Maanum won’t play for Norway in their next games because she got hurt during the cup final against Chelsea.
The midfielder fell down on the pitch with no one around her when the game was almost finished. She had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
The match on Sunday stopped for seven minutes so Frida could get help from the medics. Arsenal later confirmed she did not lose consciousness and, after travelling back from Wolverhampton with the team, did not require hospital treatment.
Arsenal ended up winning the game 1-0 after extra time thanks to Stina Blackstenius’ 116th-minute winner. In an update shared on Tuesday, Arsenal said that Frida was okay and that doctors were looking after her.
On Wednesday, the club then confirmed Maanum will not go to play for Norway during the upcoming international break.
In a statement, Arsenal said: “Frida Maanum will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team at Arsenal this week and will therefore not meet up with the Norwegian national team before their game on Friday.
“We are liaising closely with the Norwegian medical team. Frida is stable and doing well and we’ll share further updates as and when we receive them.”
Norway has important matches coming up against Finland at home on Friday and then the Netherlands next Tuesday as they launch their Euro 2025 qualifying campaign.
Following the incident on Sunday, Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall admitted that it was “very scary”.
“I have been able to have a conversation with her but not on a medical perspective, he said. “I just checked in with her, how she is doing and telling her that we won and understanding a little bit about the next steps, but I don’t have any medical update.
“She is going to travel back with the team and after that we will provide an update.”
