Arsenal are set for a busy end to the summer transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
The Gunners have made two additions to their senior ranks so far this summer, but there may well be more before the window shuts.
So far, Arsenal have completed the signings of Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori and Spain midfielder Mikel Merino.
The Gunners have also moved several players on, such as Emile Smith Rowe, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update regarding Southampton and their pursuit of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Southampton submit bid for Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale
Ramsdale is seeking a move away from the Emirates Stadium after losing his starting place to David Raya last season.
Meanwhile, the Saints are looking for reinforcements in between the sticks after returning to the Premier League over the summer.
Talks have been heading in the right direction, with Romano previously reporting that Southampton and Arsenal are “advancing well” in discussions.
Now, Romano has reported that Southampton have in fact submitted a formal bid to Arsenal and to Ramsdale’s agents.
Ramsdale would be a major asset for Southampton
Ramsdale joined Arsenal to a mixed reaction back in 2021 and quickly silenced his critics as he dethroned Bernd Leno as the Gunners’ first-choice in goal.
Now, the £30million England international looks set to suffer the same fate that befell his predecessor, and a move away looks to be on the cards.
And it’s for the best, because Ramsdale is a top goalkeeper who should be starting regularly, and at Southampton, he’ll likely help the Premier League new-boys to crucial points.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has deemed Ramsdale a “phenomenon” and Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has described him as “incredible”.
