Fabrizio Romano confirms the striker who Nottingham Forest would prefer to sign out of Eddie Nketiah and Santiago Gimenez

Nottingham Forest have submitted bids for Eddie Nketiah and Santiago Gimenez over the past week but they have now chosen which is their top target.

Nottingham Forest have already welcomed eight new signings to the club at a cost of just over £70million.

They are now looking to cap off a superb summer of business by adding a star striker to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Forest have shown interest in Santiago Gimenez but their latest bid for the Feyenoord striker was rejected with the Dutch outfit demanding a club-record fee close to £30million.

Talks over Gimenez have continued, but Forest have also identified alternative targets and agreed personal terms with Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal are looking to offload players in the final days of the summer transfer window as they await Mikel Merino’s arrival at The Emirates.

Nottingham Forest identify Eddie Nketiah as top target

With Forest in talks for two strikers, it is approaching a point where they will have to choose which is the better option.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest have decided that Eddie Nketiah is their favoured striker target.

“We could see some players leave Arsenal before the end of the window, such as Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale,” Romano said.

“With Nketiah, we know Nottingham Forest are interested. However, Forest have also shown an interest in Santiago Gimenez – their bid has been rejected by Feyenoord, €26m plus add-ons was still not enough.

“Forest have advanced in talks with Arsenal and also with Nketiah as he’s accepted the proposal on contract.

“Forest remain attentive to Gimenez situation but as of last night, Nketiah is the favourite striker option for them.”

Eddie Nketiah set to join Nottingham Forest

With first-team opportunities at Arsenal looking rare, Nketiah is on the move this summer and he is set to stay in the Premier League.

Forest have built a strong core of attacking players in Callum Hudson-Odoi, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga, but they have been missing an out-and-out striker.

Nketiah will now have the opportunity to spearhead Forest’s talented attack but will face competition from Taiwo Awoniyi.
