Ex-Raiders WR Davante Adams Dealt Bad News

Despite the fact that wide receiver Davante Adams has doubled down on his decision to force a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets during the season, he likely would’ve been better off waiting to explore his options in the offseason. The Jets only won one more game than the Raiders in 2024 and it’s looking like Adams could be one-and-done in New York. If the Jets kept him, he’d have a $38 million salary cap hit but if they cut him, it’s only an $8 million dead cap hit. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, New York is open to trading Adams but they will release him if they don’t find a trade. It’s hard to imagine Adams is looking at a big contract in free agency so he stands to millions if he’s cut. The Raiders may have gone in the same direction after the season but considering head coach Pete Carroll seems intent on building a winner quickly, Adams would’ve had a better chance of keeping at least a portion of his deal had he stayed in Las Vegas. He could likely follow quarterback Aaron Rodgers to his next team unless that ends up being the Raiders. An Adams reunion in Las Vegas isn’t likely to happen.
