Contrary to circulating rumors suggesting a move to the Baltimore Ravens, Omenihu remains committed to Kansas City, solidifying a defensive unit that played a crucial role in the team’s recent championship success.
Omenihu, 27, originally joined the Chiefs in 2023 after previous stints with the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers. He quickly made an impact in Kansas City, setting a career-high with seven regular-season sacks in just 11 games. His production helped anchor a defense that was among the league’s best throughout the season.
However, Omenihu’s season took a painful turn when he suffered a torn ACL during the AFC Championship Game — ironically against the Baltimore Ravens, the team he was falsely rumored to be joining. The injury sidelined him for much of the 2024 regular season, though he returned in time to contribute down the stretch, notching one sack in the regular season and another in the playoffs.
Despite the injury setback, Kansas City has shown full confidence in Omenihu’s ability to bounce back. The structure of his new deal reflects that: a one-year “prove-it” contract with performance-based incentives that could push the total value to $7 million. For the Chiefs, it’s a low-risk, high-reward investment in a player who has already proven he can be disruptive off the edge.
From the player’s perspective, the deal offers a chance to reset his market value with a strong comeback season, potentially setting him up for a longer-term contract next offseason.
