Dolphins Restructure Austin Jackson’s Contract, Eye More O-Line Moves
The Miami Dolphins have taken key steps to free up salary cap space for 2025, making adjustments to contracts and securing reinforcements for their offensive line.
Austin Jackson’s Restructure Creates Cap Space
The Dolphins have restructured right tackle Austin Jackson’s contract to reduce his 2025 cap hit. According to reports, $9.71 million of his base salary has been converted into a signing bonus. This adjustment lowers his 2025 cap hit by $7.8 million, bringing it down to $5.79 million. However, this move increases his 2026 cap charge to $15.77 million.
This restructuring allows the Dolphins to allocate funds toward improving their offensive line, a key priority this offseason.
Dolphins Add James Daniels and Larry Borom
Miami has already taken steps to strengthen its offensive front. The team signed former Steelers guard James Daniels to a three-year, $24 million deal. However, Daniels has been told that his exact position—left or right guard—will depend on Miami’s future roster decisions. This suggests the Dolphins may not be done upgrading their offensive line.
Additionally, the team signed tackle Larry Borom on a one-year, $2.5 million deal. The former Chicago Bears lineman adds depth and competition to the tackle position, particularly with uncertainties surrounding left tackle Terron Armstead.
More Offensive Line Moves on the Horizon?
With $16.5 million in cap space still available, the Dolphins have room to make further additions. They could target a veteran lineman in free agency or use one of their 10 draft picks—including selections in the first three rounds—to bring in a young prospect.
With Armstead expected to miss the 2025 season, second-year tackle Patrick Paul could step into a starting role. Meanwhile, center Aaron Brewer remains under contract for two more seasons, ensuring some stability on the interior.
Final Thoughts
The Dolphins are clearly focused on improving their offensive line for the 2025 season. Restructuring Jackson’s deal provides financial flexibility, and the additions of Daniels and Borom show their intent to bolster the trenches. With free agency still ongoing and the draft approaching, more moves could be on the way.
