Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front over the coming weeks as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to strengthen their squad.
The Gunners enjoyed another solid season last time out, taking the Premier League title fight to the last day of the campaign.
Next season, Arsenal will be eager to go all the way and get their hands on a trophy that has eluded them since 2004.
The Gunners have been linked with many top players in recent weeks, including one of the standout stars of Euro 2024.
Indeed, BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has now described the player in question as “the best” footballer at the tournament.
The player in question is Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who Arteta is apparently really keen on signing.
Williams has been a livewire for Spain throughout the tournament, his efforts helping La Roja reach the final of the competition.
The 22-year-old has played in every game but one, the final Group B game against Albania which came after Spain had already qualified.
Sutton and fellow pundit Matthew Upson named their respective XIs of the tournament on a video shared by BBC 5 Live Sport’s Instagram channel.
When it came to the left side of attack, Sutton said: “This is easy, Nico Williams, I think he’s been the best player at the tournament.”
After Upson jokingly asked Sutton whether he simply picking Spain’s entire team, he admitted: “You can’t deny Nico Williams, the impact he’s had.”
Arsenal may struggle to sign Williams amid Barcelona links
Admittedly, Arsenal may have a real battle on their hands trying to sign Williams, because Barcelona are seemingly intent on signing the Spaniard.
Likewise, the £50million star is reportedly keen on joining Barca. If both parties want to make it happen, then there’s not much the Gunners can do.
Arsenal have also been heavily linked with Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori after his solid showing at Euro 2024 with Italy, and this seems much more likely to happen.
