Manchester United are set to add another youth talent into the mix, with a deal for Sekou Kone.
United’s move for Sekou Kone was first reported via Fabrizio Romano, and his Instagram post was ‘liked’ by another young prospect set to join Manchester United, Chido Obi-Martin.
Romano even referenced Obi-Martin in his post, writing: “Considered top talent for the future, he’s part of long term plans similar to deal done for Chido Obi Martin.”
Chido Obi-Martin waiting for green light
Chido Obi-Martin made the headline-making decision to quit Arsenal to join Manchester United.
The wonderkid scored 32 goals for Arsenal’s under-18s side last season, at the age of just 16.
He looked at United giving opportunities to young players as a signal the Red Devils offered a better path for his development than the Gunners.
Obi-Martin underwent his medical earlier this month, with United holding talks with Arsenal to avoid the move going to a tribunal in terms of compensation.
Everything is agreed for Obi-Martin to join United, but he has not been announced or unveiled as the move is subject to Premier League ratification.
It’s a process of paperwork which just takes a few week, which United went through when signing Charlie McNeill from rivals City back in 2020. United are also currently awaiting ratification for Samuel Lusale, who is set to sign from Crystal Palace.
Obi-Martin keen to get started
Chido Obi-Martin is looking forward to getting started, and might even get the green light by the end of August.
In the meantime, he is doing individual training, honing his finishing skills, sharing a video on his Instagram reels burying a succession of shots into the top corner.
Obi-Martin accompanied his video with a one-word message, which read: “Soon”, showing he is ready and waiting for the green light for his Manchester United adventure to begin.
Once Chido Obi-Martin is permitted to start work at Carrington, he is expected to initially begin with the academy, but there will be opportunities to work his way into the first team mix.
Obi-Martin can look forward to working with coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, who can help turn him into an even more lethal forward.
The young Dane will also be able to train and play alongside his idol, Rasmus Hojlund, a striker he could soon line up with at international level too.
