Breaking: Top Options for Wisconsin Badgers to Replace Nyzier Fourqurean at Cornerback

Top Options for Wisconsin Badgers to Replace Nyzier Fourqurean at Cornerback

With the NCAA denying Nyzier Fourqurean’s final year of eligibility, the Wisconsin Badgers now face a crucial task: finding a reliable replacement at cornerback before the 2025 season kicks off. Fourqurean, a Division II transfer from Grand Valley State, was expected to be a key contributor in the secondary after a solid 2023 campaign. His absence leaves a void not only in experience but also in leadership and versatility. Fortunately for Wisconsin, several candidates are ready to step up and compete for that starting role.

Ricardo Hallman: The Veteran Anchor

First and foremost, Ricardo Hallman will continue to anchor one side of the field. A returning starter who earned third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023, Hallman has shown great instincts and ball skills, leading the team in interceptions last season. His presence gives the Badgers at least one dependable corner, allowing the staff to focus on finding the best complement to him on the opposite side.

Geimere Latimer: Versatility and Experience

Geimere Latimer is the most likely candidate to step into Fourqurean’s role. A transfer from Jacksonville State, Latimer has experience playing both inside and outside cornerback. During spring practice, he took a significant number of reps with the first team and impressed coaches with his football IQ and physicality. Though originally pegged for nickel duties, his versatility makes him a strong candidate to slide outside and take over Fourqurean’s spot.

D’Yoni Hill: The Transfer Wildcard

Another name to watch is D’Yoni Hill, a lengthy and athletic transfer from Miami. Hill brings Power Five-level experience and has the physical tools to match up with Big Ten receivers. While he may not be as polished as Hallman or Latimer, Hill could be a valuable rotational piece or even a starter if he continues to progress through fall camp.

Omillio Agard: The Young Breakout

Redshirt freshman Omillio Agard is also in the mix after an impressive spring. A former four-star recruit, Agard showed flashes of potential with his speed and competitive nature. Though young, he has the traits to eventually become a starter. If he continues to develop, he could see meaningful snaps this season, especially in sub-packages or as a situational cover man.

Freshman Depth: Cairo Skanes and Jaimier Scott

True freshmen Cairo Skanes and Jaimier Scott round out the depth chart. While they may not be ready for immediate starting roles, both showed promise during spring and summer workouts. Their development will be key for long-term depth, and they may contribute on special teams or in mop-up duty early on.

Conclusion

Replacing a player like Nyzier Fourqurean isn’t easy, but Wisconsin has multiple capable options. Between experienced transfers, a reliable returning starter, and high-upside youth, the Badgers are in a better position than most teams would be facing a late offseason loss. If Latimer or Hill steps up alongside Hallman, and young players like Agard continue to progress, the Wisconsin secondary should still be a strength in 2025.
