The Las Vegas Raiders made a strong addition to their roster in the form of linebacker Germaine Pratt.
It came at the cost of a roster spot for a 26-year old safety.
The Raiders cut Jonathan Sutherland to make room for Pratt, the Raiders announced.
Sutherland is a Penn State product who has yet to appear in a regular season game.
In 2023, he was with the Seahawks practice squad, and then he split 2024 training camp between Seattle and the New York Giants.
Sutherland is actually a native of Ottawa, Ontario in Canada.
The 5-foot-11 safety played five seasons at Penn State. He totaled 137 tackles across 58 games.
The Nittany Lions actually used Sutherland closer to the line of scrimmage as a linebacker in his final college season, 2022, so he’s regarded as a solid tackler.
He had five passes defensed in his college career.
Sutherland clearly has traits that NFL teams like enough to keep him around, so it seems probable that he’ll end up in training camp with someone later this summer after the Vegas release.
