Houser, 32, is making his return to the big leagues after spending this season in Triple-A with the Texas Rangers. Houser was 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA over 39.1 innings pitched with Triple-A Round Rock.

The team announced the move in a post on X.

Houser was a standout pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers for parts of seven seasons, going 31-34 with a 4.00 ERA in 129 appearances. He last pitched in Major League Baseball in 2024 with the New York Mets, logging a 1-5 record with a 5.84 ERA in 23 appearances.

The White Sox are currently 14-34 and in last place in the American League Central and rank 29th in MLB. They are on a five-game losing streak and in need of pitching depth.

Houser will start Tuesday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners. On May 14, Houser pitched 8.2 scoreless innings allowing only four hits, one walk and striking out four batters. He also hit a batter.

In his May 8 outing, Houser went 5.0 innings allowing just one hit and one earned run. He struck out eight batters but walked four batters.

The White Sox have had quality pitching performances from rookie Shane Smith, Jonathan Cannon and Sean Burke but the offense has been abysmal, ranking 28th in runs scored. The team plays much better at home, going 9-13 at Rate Field but just 5-21 on the road.
