Ferrari Urges Calm Over Lewis Hamilton’s F1 2025 Form: “Stop the Overreactions”

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has called for calm amid what he describes as exaggerated reactions to Lewis Hamilton’s early performances in the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Following a high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari during the winter, the seven-time world champion has faced a turbulent start with the Maranello-based team. While expectations were high, Ferrari has fallen short of preseason predictions, currently trailing McLaren by a staggering 165 points after just seven rounds.

Hamilton’s highlights so far include a pole position and sprint race victory in China, and a podium finish in the Miami sprint. Most recently, he impressed with a comeback drive from 12th to fourth in Imola—his best grand prix result with Ferrari and his first time finishing ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc this season.

Despite the mixed results, Vasseur emphasized that Hamilton is still adapting to life at Ferrari and dismissed any extremes in judgment based on individual weekends.

“We have to stop this where if Lewis has a good weekend everything is perfect or if it’s not a good weekend, everything is a disaster,” Vasseur stated.

“Every single driver is working on himself, working with the team, trying to develop something, trying to do a better job,” he added. “It’s not that on Saturday evening he’s not well prepared and by Sunday he’s a magician. We just have to stay calm.”

Vasseur acknowledged the need for continued improvement in communication and technical understanding, stressing the importance of patience as Hamilton integrates into the Ferrari system after 12 years with Mercedes.

“For sure, we need to improve the communication, the understanding of the process and the tools and the software and everything,” he concluded.

Ferrari will be hoping that Hamilton’s momentum at Imola signals the start of a stronger run as the team aims to close the gap in both championships.
