According to a recent report from Fichajes, Barcelona tried to offload Ferran Torres during the closing days of the summer transfer window.
In fact, the club offered him to Arsenal in an effort to free up some salary space and generate income for potential new signings. However, Mikel Arteta and his staff decided against completing the deal, choosing to pursue other options instead.
Arsenal ultimately chose to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea, a player they felt would be a better fit for their squad.
While Torres had hoped to secure a move to the London club to gain more playing time and rediscover his top form, the transfer did not materialise.
Although he has a contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2027, he was unable to convince Arsenal to make a move for him.
As of today, there is also no indication that Arsenal will revisit their interest in the winter transfer window, even as Barcelona may still look to offload him to finance a new signing in midfield.
Meanwhile, Arteta, who had previously worked with Sterling during his time at Manchester City, felt the English winger would be a valuable addition to his team.
Despite Barcelona’s attempts to find a new club for Torres, it appears that for now, he will remain at the club at least until the end of the season.
His future remains uncertain, but it is clear that Barcelona were looking for ways to restructure their squad during the summer.
So far this season, the Spanish winger has divided opinion largely because he has not been consistent. His worst outing came against Osasuna where he failed to convert changes.
For now, Torres’ future largely depends on Barcelona’s summer business as it is understood that he is not in Hansi Flick’s plan. So if the team sign a left-winger, Torres’ career at Barcelona could be over.
