Arsenal have had a bid for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran turned down, according to reports in Colombia.
The Gunners, who have found goals hard to come by recently with back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Newcastle and Inter Milan, are already eyeing the January transfer window to solve their scoring woes. Colombian reports suggest that Arsenal tabled a £46 million offer for the 20-year-old striker, who has impressed with eight goals this season despite limited starts.
However, Duran is also on the radar of Chelsea and West Ham. Villa Park chiefs are determined to retain their young talent, especially after Duran inked a new contract last month, securing his services until 2030.
Antena 2 has indicated that Villa swiftly rejected the North London club’s approach for the ex-Chicago Fire player. Duran himself has expressed his dedication to Villa, telling the club’s official website: “There’s always a new level to reach, and I hope we can achieve it. [My objective is] To keep working, contributing to the team, the club.”
He added, “[I want to] Continue being in the top part of the table and, well, that’s all. Above all, I want to help the team and then the goals will follow. I’m happy with how we’ve started, and I hope we continue like this.”
