Arsenal’s £12m tipped to star in new role at Emirates

The Gunners star has been heavily relied upon by Mikel Arteta with the head coach hopeful of keeping him in N7

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is reportedly considering a move into coaching once his current contract with the Gunners expires.

The Italian midfielder’s deal with Arsenal expires next summer and, according to FootballTransfers, talks have already started taking place regarding the midfielder’s future with the club.

The 32-year-old first joined the Emirates in January 2023 from Chelsea and quickly established himself as a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad, with the Gunners head coach reportedly ‘leaning’ on Jorginho’s own experiences in the dressing room.

It is also said that the Italian star played a key role in helping the summer acquisition of compatriot and defender Riccardo Calafiori, who joined the Gunners despite keen interest from several of Europe’s top sides.

Jorginho is now said to be considering his future in N7 and it appears there are two options on the table for him: either extend his playing career for at least one more year, or join Arteta’s coaching staff.

FootballTransfers continue their report by noting that even on Jorginho’s first arrival at Arsenal, joining the coaching team had been discussed and now continues to remain an ongoing topic of conversation. However, the Italy international is yet to make a firm decision on which of the aforementioned options he prefers.

Since joining from Arsenal’s London rivals, Jorginho – who has often had to compete for his place in the side with fellow veteran Thomas Partey – has played over 55 times.

He recently captained the side in their 5-1 EFL Cup win over Bolton, with Martin Odegaard out of action through injury. That said, he has made just one Premier League appearance so far this season, playing the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s dramatic 1-0 win over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

With both Jorginho and Partey over 30 years of age and with expiring contracts in 2025, Arteta has been reported to be seeking potential replacements. Sweden international Hugo Larsson has been one such star linked with a move to the Emirates, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has also received recent attention from the Gunners.
