Arsenal ‘watching developments’ and could make surprise move for £80 million Man City ace

Arsenal are reportedly ready to enter the race to sign an £80 million Manchester City player who is keen on leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal confirmed the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna last week after the Italian defender seemingly turned down interest from Juventus.

The Gunners may not be stopping there either with HITC reporting that Arsenal are keen on Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino with the Spaniard turning down the La Liga side’s contract offer with a transfer away looking likely.

However, a new striker has been one of Arteta’s priorities with Arsenal missing out on Benjamin Sesko after the Slovenian signed a new deal at RB Leipzig.

The Gunners have earmarked a Manchester City forward this summer if reports are to be believed

Arsenal ‘watching’ Julian Alvarez situation

HITC understands that City forward Julian Alvarez is keen on departing the Etihad Stadium this summer.

We had also reported that City had rebuffed enquiries for Alvarez with Chelsea and clubs from the Saudi Pro League keen on the former Boca Juniors ace.

A report from The Mirror has thrown Arsenal into the mix for the signing of the forward, with the outlet claiming that the Gunners are watching developments with Alvarez very closely.

Arsenal had reportedly planned to go into the new season without a new forward but Alvarez’s situation has somewhat changed that stance.

The report does, however, go on to say that the Premier League champions may well demand an eye-watering figure close to £80 million for the Argentine.

Arsenal could capitalise on costly City error

Playing behind Erling Haaland is certainly not an easy task for the 24-year-old striker and it seems he is keen on leaving the North of England to pastures new.

As well as interest from the Premier League and the Middle East, HITC has reported that Atletico Madrid are keen on Alvarez.

If Arsenal were to enter the race and pull off the signing of Alvarez, just as they did with the signing of Gabriel Jesus from City back in 2022, this would be an incredible deal.

Alvarez scored 11 goals and provided eight assists for City in the Premier League last season and the 24-year-old has been compared to Sergio Aguero.

Moving to Arsenal would be a controversial move but Alvarez would become the main man for the Gunners and it would deal a serious dent to City’s title hopes next season.

Arsenal have to do all they can to sign Alvarez.
