Arsenal managed to shift many of their unwanted players during the summer with plenty of departures secured to balance this summer’s spending. The Gunners splashed out more than £100million to follow up last summer’s big spending, landing Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino, while Raheem Sterling was signed on loan and David Raya stayed put following an initial loan deal.
Mikel Arteta is desperate to see his men go one better in their title bid this season, and more quality was required in a bid to keep up with – and indeed take over – Manchester City. Though, Premier League financial rules mean spending must be balanced regardless of whether a club can afford to strike transfer deals.
Bologna, who sold Calafiori to Arsenal, are said to have made an approach, and they were reportedly joined by Inter Milan. There were reports towards the end of the window that claimed that Arteta had changed his mind over Kiwior and decided not to sell him.
But the report suggests that decision may have come out of neccessity with no club willing to match Arsenal’s asking price of £16.8million, which is 20million euros. Both Italian clubs are said to have turned their nose up at that asking price, while Kiwior was said to be keen to return to Italy.
