Arsenal tell Newcastle United to pay £40m for ‘versatile’ 60-capped international

Newcastle United must stump up £40million to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer, according to reports.

The Ukrainian international has become a bit-part player for Arsenal in recent months. Signed from Manchester City almost two years ago, Zinchenko arrived alongside Gabriel Jesus to take the Gunners to the next level.

He impressed in his debut campaign, with Arsenal being pipped to the Premier League title by former club City. Fast forward to the present and Mikel Arteta appears to prefer Takehiro Tomiyasu at left-back.
Jakub Kiwior also arrived last summer to threaten the Zinchenko’s position further. Spanish outlet Fichajes claims Newcastle are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old’s situation in case he becomes available.
Left-back had been a problem area for Eddie Howe in 2023-24 until Lewis Hall’s recent impressive run. Dan Burn was exposed, his displays improving greatly since switching centrally.

Matt Targett has not featured since suffering a hamstring injury in November’s 3-0 win over Manchester United. Toon chiefs could look to sign another left-back as competition for Hall, who is still viewed as a novice.

However, the reported £40million asking may repel Newcastle interest as they battle FFP/PSR limitations. Other positions would be higher up the priority list – namely centre-back and on the right flank.

The piece claims Bayern Munich are also expressing interest to replace Alphonso Davies. Rumours have linked the Canadian with a big-money move to Real Madrid throughout the campaign.
