Arsenal star reveals why Riccardo Calafiori is ‘lucky’

Arsenal star Jorginho has claimed that Riccardo Calafiori is lucky to join a squad of players this summer who have been more than willing to make him feel welcome.

The Gunners agreed a deal worth £42m with Bologna for the signature of the Italy centre-back in the summer transfer window.

Calafiori has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League since his arrival as Mikel Arteta looks to ease him into the scheme of things in English football.

He missed the north London derby last weekend due to a calf problem but has returned to training ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League opener against Atalanta tonight at the Gewiss Stadium.

Jorginho is pleased to have his Italy teammate in the Arsenal squad and believes he is ready to make the step up at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal star reckons Riccardo Calafiori has walked into a good squad of players

Jorginho indicated that the defender will need some time to adapt in the Premier League but believes he is lucky to walk into a squad of players who have created a positive environment at Arsenal.

He stressed that the Arsenal squad have been keen to make sure that Calafiori feels welcome at the club since his arrival in the summer transfer window.

The midfielder insisted that the defender is a quality player who has been a positive addition to the Gunners squad in the last window.

“He has just arrived”, Calafiori told Sky Italia (via Tutto Mercato).

“He is lucky because he has joined a group of guys who have immediately tried to make him feel at home.

“He has found himself in a good state, he has many qualities and can add a lot to the team. I think he is ready for this step.”

Calafiori is unlikely to start tonight for Arsenal at Atalanta given he is returning from a slight knock.
