Arsenal are expected to announce their second signing of the summer very soon.
The Gunners are yet to make a new addition to Mikel Arteta‘s squad so far, with only the permanent £27m signing of David Raya from Brentford going down as a signing in the current transfer window.
Now – however – Arsenal are expected to announce a second summer signing shortly, and it is not Riccardo Calafiori…
Arsenal set to announce Tommy Setford deal soon
An update from Charles Watts now claims that Arsenal are set to announce the signing of Tommy Setford from Ajax imminently.
The Gunners recently made a bid for the Englishman – who Fabrizio Romano called a “big talent” – with David Ornstein later revealing that Arsenal’s €1m (£840,633) offer for the goalkeeper had been accepted by Ajax.
In recent days, the situation has quietened down somewhat, although Watts has now claimed that he is expecting Arsenal to make an official announcement of the deal soon
The reliable journalist added that he also expects Arsenal to make an improved bid for Wolves No.25 Daniel Bentley – another goalkeeper – despite Setford’s impending move to the Emirates Stadium.
Edu Gaspar could be preparing to sell Aaron Ramsdale
For Arsenal to sign not just one goalkeeper, but two, could suggest that Edu Gaspar – Director of Football at the Emirates Stadium – is planning for the sale of Aaron Ramsdale.
Arteta is happy to let the England international leave Arsenal this summer after making Raya his No.1 last season, while the 26-year-old himself is also keen to depart in search of regular playing time again.
Therefore, Arsenal are seemingly intending to sign Setford and Bentley as backup options for Raya, to go with 22-year-old Estonia international Karl Hein, who is already at the Emirates Stadium.
Once Setford is signed, the aforementioned Calafiori could actually become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer before Bentley.
Arsenal have agreed a £42m deal with Bologna for the Italy international – who shone at UEFA Euro 2024 – with Arteta viewing the Italian as an inverted option for the left of defence.
Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Arsenal, as we expect plenty of transfer activity to occur now UEFA Euro 2024 is over.
